The University of Georgia College of Engineering has named James Warnock interim director of the Engineering Education Transformations Institute (EETI), the college’s incubator for engineering education research and instruction.
While continuing his duties as chair of the School of Chemical, Materials and Biomedical Engineering, Warnock will begin his appointment in EETI on July 1. He succeeds EETI’s founders, Joachim Walther and Nicola Sochacka, who are leaving UGA to pursue their work in Australia.
“I want to thank Dr. Warnock for taking on the responsibilities of leading EETI in addition to his work as one of our school chairs,” said Donald Leo, dean of the College of Engineering. “Since its founding in 2016, EETI has grown into a vibrant community dedicated to advancing engineering education research and instruction. Our college is committed to building upon the institute’s strong foundation.”
The Engineering Education Transformations Institute serves as a hub for a wide range of discussions and initiatives designed to improve engineering education. The institute focuses on bringing together faculty, staff and students as it helps faculty improve instruction, generate innovations in courses and curricula, and conduct empirical research to better understand students’ experiences.
“I’ve been actively involved in EETI since my tenure at UGA began so I’ve seen first-hand the vital work happening in the institute,” said Warnock. “It’s a tremendous honor to help lead this collaborative, innovative community forward.”
The College of Engineering plans to initiate a search for a new director for the Engineering Education Transformations Institute this fall.
