UGA hosts second annual Electric Mobility Summit

e-mobility_summit_2023The future of electric mobility in Georgia and beyond was the focus of the second annual University of Georgia Electric Mobility Summit. More than 200 participants from industry, government and education gathered on campus April 21 to discuss advancing the adoption of electric mobility in the state and the educational programs that we will need to support the growth.

Georgia is a hub of investment and activity in electric mobility. With a vibrant multi-modal transportation network that includes Atlanta-Hartsfield Jackson International Airport, the Port of Savannah, and an extensive road and rail network, the state is becoming a leader in the adoption of electric mobility technologies for the benefit of the health and resilience of our communities.

The summit included keynote remarks from Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost Jack Hu; UGA President Jere Morehead; Kim Greene, chairman, president and CEO of Georgia Power; Commissioner Tricia Pridemore, Georgia Public Service Commission; Commissioner Russell McMurry, Georgia Department of Transportation; and Joe George, president, Cox Automotive Mobility.

A key highlight of the conference was the announcement of a $5 million dollar gift from the Georgia Power Company to the University of Georgia in order to create scholarships, support research, and build statewide partnerships in the field of electric mobility.
