Fall 2021 Convocation

Held in conjunction with the University of Georgia's Commencement, the UGA College of Engineering's Convocation is a special ceremony honoring students individually for their hard work and dedication in earning an engineering degree.

Health and Safety Protocols

The Classic Center requires all guests to present ONE of the following for entry:

  • Vaccination card + photo ID
  • Signed health affidavit + temperature check
  • Negative COVID test within 72 hours

Thursday, Dec. 16, 2021
3:00 p.m.
Classic Center Theatre, 300 N. Thomas Street


  • The ceremony begins promptly at 3:00 p.m.
  • Candidates should arrive prior to 2:30 p.m. for photographs and line up in the Athena Ballroom.
  • The ceremony will last approximately 60 minutes.  


The ceremony will be available via livestream on this page and the College of Engineering's YouTube channel.


  • Students should wear business attire underneath their regalia.
  • Academic regalia is required for all degree candidates and consists of a black robe, mortar board, and orange tassel.
  • The College will award a red stole to all candidates for the ceremony.


No tickets are required for the ceremony.


During the ceremony, each degree candidate will cross the stage and be congratulated. A professional graduation photography service will be present. Those photographs will be made available from the vendor for purchase.  In addition, the College contracts with a separate photographer to provide candid shots that will be made available to students and their families at no cost within a week of the ceremony.


Convocation ceremony guests have the option of parking on-campus for free or in the Classic Center Parking Deck for a fee. Other paid parking is available in downtown Athens, including the Clarke County Courthouse Parking Deck a short walk from the Classic Center. However, expect parking to be at a premium due to the large number of events that day.  Please see commencement.uga.edu for more information on on-campus parking options. 

Special Gifts

The College of Engineering will provide a distinctive watercolor print of the Driftmier Engineering Center by Athens artist Jamie Calkin and a College of Engineering stole to each graduate eligible to participate in the ceremony. Candidates unable to attend the ceremony may pick up their stole and watercolor print Dec. 8 - 15 by contacting Debbie Lovelady at dlove@uga.edu.

University of Georgia Commencement

The University of Georgia’s Fall 2021 Commencement ceremonies will be held on Friday, December 17 in Sanford Stadium.

The Undergraduate Commencement ceremony will begin at 10:00 AM, and the Graduate Commencement ceremony will begin at 2:30 PM.

Tickets are not required for either ceremony.

The University of Georgia College of Engineering plans to host its Spring 2022 Convocation on Thursday, May 12 at the Classic Center in downtown Athens. The ceremony will begin at 10:00 a.m. Students should arrive prior to 9:30 a.m. for check-in and the processional.
