Mark Beekman

Mark Beekman

The Federal Aviation Administration recently promoted University of Georgia alumnus Mark Beekman to manager of Engineering Services for the agency’s Eastern service area. A 1999 graduate of UGA with a degree in agricultural engineering, Beekman has more than 20 years of FAA engineering, program management, and leadership experience.

Beekman began his FAA career as a resident engineer working on construction and installation for air traffic control facilities projects across the Southeast. He moved to the Southern regional office in Atlanta in 2001 as a project engineer with responsibility for designing and constructing projects for FAA air traffic control facilities.

Beekman shifted to program management before returning to Engineering Services as the Terminal Design Center Manager, where he led the team through new air traffic control tower and terminal radar approach control facility projects, including those at Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport and Palm Beach International Airport. He currently leads the team building and equipping the new 370-foot-tall Air Traffic Control Tower at Charlotte Douglas International Airport. When completed, it will be one of the tallest towers and largest terminal facilities in North America, serving the sixth busiest airport in the U.S.

Most recently, he led the Terminal/Surveillance/Weather group. Beekman worked on the Engineering Services Strategic Planning Team and served as acting engineering services manager from June 2019 until his recent promotion.

Beekman’s wife, Bethany, is also a UGA graduate. In their free time, they enjoy the outdoors and attending concerts and sporting events. The Beekman’s have two children, ages 11 and 14.
